SKRATCH BASTID, the entertainer mixtape. His own words "The only mix done since 110%". As [Sydney DJ; FRENZIE] said... Listen to this. A very cool way to spend an hour of your R&R. Hell yeah! LIKE this Mofo on FB or follow him on Sound Cloud. Listen to 3 Kings first on the Player to your left, then, you'll see what we mean.
Everything he has done to date is super wild, fresh and on point. The Entertainer mixtape is a studio production with a mix of cut and paste, layer blends of cool acapella's, funk, rock and hip-hop loops with many of his own 're-constructions'... But never fear, it keeps your ears peeled, head nodding, feet tapping and your eager to jump to the fridge and crack a brew within the first six tracks.
Turn up the boom box, treble down and bass up. The Skratching is super fresh, cheeky and damn tight... Not that you'd expect anything less from this Bastid! The program of music is chronic. A similar new to old, old to new, bounce back and forth slew of jems that UK based DJ/Producer Andy Smith was renowned for with his 'The Document' Compilations.
Highly creative and never boring this is 1 super hour of turntablistic power, bought to you by the kid himself
'The Entertainer' Peep skratchbastid.com for much much more. Also look him up on youtube and find the video of him [a couple of years old now] remixing James Brown live on the 1200's.
News also that he is embarking on a 'The Skratch of All Trades' tour which he is show casing all the facets of Bastid in one show; Party rocking turntablism,
video mixing, live production and projection all in one. We hope this show makes it below the equator for a bit of Aust/NZ action... The first announcement of Canada dates are:
Fri, Apr 27 - Revival Bar. Toronto, ON.
Fri, May 4 - Fortune Sound Club. Vancouver, BC.
Fri, May 11 - The Palace. Halifax, NS.
Bastid in the Lab. One and half years of prep for the forth coming "Skratch Of All Trades" 2012 tour. It's gotta be awesome

DJ PREMIER & BUMPY KNUCKLES aka Freddie Foxxx, Kollexxxion. Got word of the Album launch/Freddie's Bday bash. The last Monday of March. Damn, NYC is something of its own. What can be accomplished in one night. Check this for a night out at the Highline Ballroom, W16 St Chelsea...
DJ Technician from the Bronx warmed up with Flavor Flav hosting and opening the night with '911 is a joke'. So, DJ Premier is steering the wheels of steel most of the night, Grand Master Flash and Kool Herc are in the place. NYG'z do a number, Sweet Tee gets up for 'It's my beat', Shawn Pen a.k.a Little Shawn bowls the stage and spits. Bumpy takes the stage and Preemo drops their new bomb 'The Key' surrounded by the likes of Eric B, Lord Finesse, Pete Rock and Kid Capri.
Bumpy then welcomes the Cold Crush Brothers to the stage to rock the mic proceeded by O.C [of D.I.T.C fame] and Bumpy to do a couple of their 90's collabo tracks.
Big Shug jumps up with Preemo and B to lay down the heavy weight track 'MILTIA' from Gangstarr's Daily operation L.P with a video tribute to
DJ Premier, keeps the crowd hyped at Kollexxxion LP launch, Highline ballroom NYC
GURU when his verse drops.. M.O.P appear and do a couple of classics including 'Ante Up'. Heather B joins in to perform 'My kind of N!&&@'. Naughty by Nature grab the Mics to drop a couple of golden jems.
Finally to finish the night off Bumpy jumps back up with Preemo and performs the new stormer 'The Gangstarr Bus' a track, which has that old fashion beats flavour just like the doc prescribes.
Now, let's talk about the album. Tear the roof down, boom! Head bangers galore from the last half decade, all the bangers you've heard slowly surface [which I'm not going to explain, go do your diggin'] plus more, a handful of fresh red meat thrown in for your doggz. Preemo never ceases to amaze when it comes to choppin' it up on the MPC and fattening that stuff up on the boards.
Shake the Room ft. Flavor Flav is a massive block rocker consisting of huge organ chords, a spider crawling bass line and trade mark 'preemo' - eerily haunting backdrop noises.
B. A. P, exactly what the title says, BOOM BAP right in ya face. Have a serious listen to the first verse, with respect; interesting and enlightening.
The Life, Wow. Damn. The stabs, the flows, the kuts, the minimal beats, that wrap around the stabs. Ha ha! REAL Hip-Hop for ya. Crafted for all that love a head crackin' beat! Next, FYPAU. OK radio shack mother truckers... Peep Preemo's key arrangement around bumby's chronic flows/story; then swallow the kuts. More Levels; don't even go there! Greatness. These are the new ill joints.
Hip-Hop is NOT Rap Music
Rap is something ya do, Hip-hop is something ya live.

Drunk on the Rays

HILLTOP HOODS, the acclaimed producers/artists and Aussie hip-hop industry magnates are back with the aptly titled - Drinking from the Sun LP. Upon hearing sound bytes and singles the guys have been strategically funnelling through social media and marketing channels months proceeding the release as always, makes you eager to hear more of what their usual 2 year spot light hiatus will yield. To the dismay of the envious [and the big labels] they have come out of the gates blazing again like a thorough breed stallion pumped full of performance enhancing you know what's and going gold in the first week.
The production is strong and diverse. There is a peppered array of global talent spread through out the LP, all of notable mention [Aussie chicky babe - Sia, Chali 2una, Classified, Solo, Black Thought and Lotek]. Even though at some points flows and arrangements seem experimental and outside the box of the sound you've come to expect from them. It's major, current and as always.. delivered with A class credibility.
Sample wise the albums content is great. Dug out well from north to south, east to west, even the dusty K-tel's. Hell, the Mama's and Papa's slept on stormer - California Earthquake gets the chop suey in the track titled 'The Underground', there ya go! For all you over 60, side shakin', hand clappers that wouldn't have even pick it... Damn, my ma didn't.
Delivered with a theme and full sonic story board which creates images and scenes in your brain like your reading a great book that's hard to put down, the fella's from Adalaide have done it again and as always on their own terms.
Check out "Drinking from the Sun" out now, through Golden Era Records. Available at JB Hi-Fi [for all the Aussie] walk in's and on iTunes; for all you right clickin', shrt spln ipad/phone4, ah shieet... My batteries flat, digital gurus.
Hazey days... Main Beach, Byron Bay; 6am. Early Nov 2011. Drinkin' and wakin' up to the sun...
'Nu' Mark, Wreck Chordz
DJ NU MARK, of J5 fame has just released the first of his Broken Sunlight 10 inch vinyl series on his own imprint - Hot Plate Records. Featuring wordsmiths Freddy Foxx a.k.a Bumpy Knuckles and Large Professor. BP on the A and LP on the flip.
Both joints.. Massive; ..em, large. Nu is really flippin' with these joints, utilising a style of chop it up production that Preemo has earned many a stripe for. Workin' with NYC MCee's has proved a fruitful adventure for the man, this is the real sound of hip-hop that is rare to surface these days, so it's exciting to attain and listen to.
Dumpin' em all offers up neck crackin' bass arrangement stabilized by a straight fat ass beat structure from Nu and tough flows from Bumpy. On the flip; When you sleep is a lighter feeling joint on the sonic tip and Large Pro offers up a trademark NYC street story.
Fat as and filled with dreamy soundscape chops, female vocal stabs for verse backing, an awesome scratch collage arranged by Nu to make a very catchy chorus line. All in all, this is that 90's Queens sound which is signature to NYC hip hop; dope. 5 Star entertainment.
Pay Nu's site a visit, show some love. Volume 1 of the Broken Sunlight Series is available digitally or shipped on wax along with some hard to pass trinkets at http://www.unclenu.com that's Uncle Nu dot com, ya'll!
Rakim Allah, the God MC
"HOW TO EMCEE". Taken from the LP "The Seventh Seal". A Slept on gem well worthy of mention; dusted off last November, it's one that should be looked up and tracked down by all that haven't yet digested. Fierce and firey, produced by Slyce with Rakim adding the cream. Quote; Some of the illest rhymes ever put together. Drop it with Pharcyde's 'Ya Mama' fits like 8 fingers clampin' together. Check the video on YouTube, at above link.
